Is BMW coding safe for the car?
In short
Coding itself does not harm the car: it changes settings that already exist in the modules’ software, and they can be reverted to factory values. Problems come from bad coding: the wrong software, a low battery during the work, or changing settings without saving a copy first.
When coding is safe
- It is done with the proper BMW software (NCS-Expert for coding).
- A copy of each module’s settings is saved before any change.
- The battery is charged and the voltage stays stable during the work.
- The person coding understands what each setting does.
Mistakes that cause trouble
- Changing random settings from ready-made lists without understanding them.
- Losing power during programming (riskier with programming than coding).
- Coding a feature the car lacks the parts for, which raises faults.
How we work
I’m Seif Mohamed. Before any change I save the settings of every module I will touch, and I work on a charged battery. If you want any feature back at factory settings later, that is possible.
Questions about this
Should I undo the coding if I sell the car?
You do not have to, but we can return any feature to factory settings if you like.
Will the dealer notice the coding?
The dealer may see settings were changed, but that is not a fault. We can restore factory settings before a visit.
